Musings from Pastor’s Office: “From East to West”

Wise ones from the East had studied starts to find a sign of the new birth of Messiah, a savior for the world. One day, they found a star strangely shining in the dark blue sky. They concluded that it was the star they had been longing for. They hurried to pack their stuff for a journey with the star. As the star guided, they departed their trip following it. No destination was known to them. No maps, no navigation, no travel duration, no trip plan, but following a star. Sometimes, they waded in big rivers, crossed the deserts, passed valleys, and climbed the high mountains. Scorching heat of the desert didn’t stop them, cold night temperature plummeted but their feet didn’t take rest. They didn’t mind encountering bandits. Their travel was 1200 mile-long journey from Persia to Jerusalem. Was it fun to ride on the back of camels and to tread the long winding dusty road without Nintendo? Maybe not!
What was motivation for them to continue their journey with the star? It would be “yearning” for a savior. Christ’s coming seated in their heart as their foremost priority. They didn’t follow their own worldly desires to be rich, powerful, influential, successful, and famous. They put down all their own agenda and humbly followed the star.
What are we chasing after in this season of Advent? What or who is our guidance? Our own desire leads us to a place? A place of emptiness?
Let’s choose a right star to follow. Let’s humbly follow God’s guidance. Let’s take an inner journey for our true yearning. Let’s find the companion in that journey so that we may support one another in our long journey. Let’s hope to meet the divine child Jesus that will change our life and turn it into blessed one. Let’s rejoice in God’s presence in the journey.
God called these gentile megi in a far land. God calls each one of us who are far and near. Would you take this life-changing journey in this winter?
